Of cubism,
I am ignorant
yet, I relate
To express
depths of perception
concurrent aspects
Of a multi –
imagined
universe
Or even
to embrace
the possibility
of oneness
in fractured
slices…
I pull apart the pieces
re-create the image
still cannot find the whole.
(Reena’s Exploration challenge this week is cubism, a subject I know nothing about, but it does seem to fit with this self-portrait I’ve been working on. Synchronicity in action.)
“Of oneness in fractured slices” Killer line, VJ! Great piece. 🙂

I confess, I know nothing about cubism but I could relate to the “…possibility / of oneness in fractured slices”

Not finding the whole is so right. I often wonder how pieces from my psyche will relate to a piece of another’s mind, without ever knowing the whole.

A complex idea for sure.

I am fascinated by your self portrait in process. So fitting with the poem. (I’m no sure about cubism either)

Thanks. I like the idea that we are many parts / sides.

I too didn’t have much idea about cubism but, as you say it was a fun exercise.
Our realities are actually quite scrambled. You expressed it with clarity.

Your poem reminds me so much of a graduate American lit seminar I took in grad school, in which we spent an entire class discussing cubsim’s relationship to modernism. I actually made a comment about “the essence of chairness” with a straight face.
Your use of cubism as a metaphor for the fragmentation of the self is very effective.

“the essence of chairness” – well that made me spew my tea – I really have no idea about cubism, having never studied art, but this was a fun exercise.

….you always bring a wholeness to your scrambled reality, V.J., thus helping us make sense of our own.
