On Common Sense

Can common sense be taught –
friendly snapshots coercing shifts?

Novices proclaim innocence,
blame their peers, but remember

When humanity is a foreign concept,
and sensibility a second tongue

The underdog suffers, and
who knows what is to follow?

(For Eugi’s Causerie weekly prompt: underdog.  Image my own.)

  1. I think common sense can be taught as a habit of mind. I like how you characterize it as “friendly snapshots coercing shifts.” Poetry is one of the best ways of providing people with these “friendly snapshots.”

  2. We need strong mentors to have common sense. We live in a world where women are still second hand citizen, hate and violence is okay. Women are our grandmothers, mother, sisters and daughters. How could you treat someone different who fed, loved you and kept you safe? They are burning down cities and in the public view. This is okay?? Us, who read and write. We know, a raised fist isn’t the road to peace. My grandfather taught me. Be kind, be fair and rate a person, by their deeds. We need leaders with common sense. People, I work with. They think I am negative. My military background taught me. Know the good points and the bad points of every decision. I made my decisions based on the possible of outcome. I enjoyed your work today dear friend.
