Craving compassion
I seek the wisdom
of the river –
Her glimmering waters
reflect sun’s warmth
I am at once calmed
and uplifted –
seagull raises his wings
emits an ungodly chuckle.
(Image, my own, is not actually a Laughing Gull, but the title fits.)
Beautiful.

I find the seagull’s cry somewhat haunting…I can imagine him being a little cheeky!

When we were in Texas, they have actual Laughing Gulls, so named for the noise they make. En masse, it was spectacular.

I’ll have to look for a recording. I didn’t know that!

The All About Birds site has some really good recordings. They have a very interesting sound, distinctively a laugh, not at all like the gull sound I’m used to!

Yes! Amazing birds.

That ungodly chuckle was disconcerting. They have a tendency to do that, don’t they?

They sure can – just nature remind us not to take ourselves too seriously.

Beautiful poem, V.J. I’m thankful to live close to the beach and have a lake within walking distance!

Yes, V.J. I lived in the inland for a few years. My nose bled from the dry air.

I always need to have water close. by….and am fortunate enough to have the River Thames minutes away and the cry of sea gulls.
I love your image and the words definitely resonate with me. Janet ๐

Thanks Janet. Ironically, my river is also the Thames, although the Canadian version.
