Mistake
Beg forgiveness
Repeat
Appearances sanitize past
Push dirt under the rug
Smother recall
Reason can be fraud
common sense out of order
Suspicions merit
an ear, listen
over din of betrayal.
(For Reena’s Exploration Challenge #135: quotation. “Always listen twice. First what’s being said, then who said it.” Image my own.)
Seems so very personal – well written and the image of the bird, frozen in time and without color, inspires ….

Definitely personal, lol, and well in the past, although it pops up from time to time. Thank you!

This is really, really, really good. Love how concise you are. You cut out all the unnecessary words.

Thank you, Benjamin. I try to be mindful of cutting out the extraneous.

That’s such a talent, I think. It’s not always the easiest thing for writers to get rid of their language but it really is such an important part of editing. Something I will definitely learn from your style.

I really like that quote the challenge was based around. You did a great poem to meet that challenge too.

Appearances sanitize past..so accurate. Courage and honestly may be needed to break away from the repeat cycle.

I think this work shows why poetry is needed. Verse can express what’s real in both a stark and readable way. “Mistake” . . . “repeat” . . . “fraud” . . . “betrayal.” You’ve crafted the truth of it just right.

Thank you so much. I agree – the most painful moments cannot be expressed in prose. Poetry serves well.

This crops up in different situations. We are expected to respond to the present stance, and the mind is unable to trust as the past has not been resolved.
