Forgo the Mask

Discontentment –
that restless inability
to surrender to distraction –
not easily masked

Wired, I am, for intrigue –
a dramatic actor displaying
mystery, baiting an audience

Denial dons noise-cancelling
headphones, blinders –
invested in illusions

Harmony the end-goal –
no point disguising,
discontentment ignored.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

      1. Maybe. There was a time when I stopped writing for a while because I wrote about a woman named Sue who had breast cancer and then my friend who coincidentally had the name Sue got breast cancer.

  1. Much jumps out at me here – as the owner of often used noise cancelling headphones. And how interesting that this was from 2018 – title and all from “before” this current world wide mess.
