Lacking Authority

Cynical of authority –
a dubious task force –
Democracy’s fairytale
under siege

Stalking wealth
expending the vulnerable
This class of clowns
is COVID revealed.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. So timely and on point. Sadly so. Here in the US it feels like nobody in charge – ie: the Feds – can get their act together. No clear message or priorities. How can we all “be in this together” if each state has to go their own way? We all border one another and the virus doesn’t stop at a state line. My heart aches for those without jobs or money or hope. Today we find out in NH what the “plan” is to reopen, but I wonder how comfortable I’ll feel to actually go anywhere.

  2. I’ve been so, so angry lately with our government in the UK and I think feelings are echoed in the US in a similar way. Here, the focus isn’t on saving lives and protecting the vulnerable. It’s already been show that the vulnerable are expendable, as you say in your poem, it’s just about saving the NHS and the financial implications. Sick and wrong.

This is such a powerful piece in so few words, very well written.

  3. Let me guess who you might be referring to …
Democracy does seem to be under siege from alarming sources. Alas, I lack authority to squelch ’em. Perhaps Mother Nature will thin their ranks accordingly. (I would not grieve much.)

      1. The TX governor has declared that businesses can open starting tomorrow. Some will. Some are declining (and saying so!). Schools will NOT reopen till fall (at earliest). Our COVID cases are still increasing – our curve has not flattened – this reopening is premature, politically motivated. Since we personally don’t have to go out mingling, we won’t. Though once a week I don my mask and brave the aisles. And we hope to go camping at a remote state park end of May.

      2. The numbers in the US are off the charts – I can’t imagine how they thing re-opening will help. We have 16,000 cases in Ontario, and 1,000 + deaths. No plans on reopening soon. We have seen a flattening of the curve, but I think they are worried about the second wave. Camping would be ideal right now, although all our parks are closed too.
