I investigate
encounter winsome smile –
masked bandit, unabashed.

Had one of these guys at my back door in the fall. I’m pretty sure he’s the one that keeps knocking over my garbage can. 🙂

Delightful image! Great you were armed with camera. We had one of these coming in during wee hours through the cat door (years back) and put up with a little bit of cat food loss for several weeks … till it began to wash things in the toilet (leaving me a splashy mess to clean up) … when my daughter found her shoe in the toilet, we had to start closing that cat flap at night. I was never face-to-face with our visitor!

That’s hilarious. It was lucky I had my camera and this fellow was as curious as I it seemed.

When we lived in Florida, our house backed up to woods. There were three raccoons that would get in our screened-in porch. They gnawed a hole in the screen. They’re fascinating to watch but menacing. Unabashed, indeed. Thank you for participating.

They can be quite destructive. I have more than one encounter with a naughty scrounger.

I love this V.J.! Of course, part of that may be because we had a pet raccoon when I was a child. He was a wonderful pet, though he did steal things and hide them. I don’t know how many earrings my Mom lost…. He loved cheese puffs and orange soda – he’d wash the cheese puffs in the soda before he ate them. Thanks for a little trip down memory lane!

Very true that raccoons have no shame, hence the need for bungee cords on garbage can lids.

Great poem, great photo. (I do wonder what you were armed with!) I love raccoons especially how they teach their kits to climb a tree. We usually see a family every spring traveling through the back yard, across the street, and into the park.

They get up to a number of different antics. Thanks.
