I loathe The Man
whose power bulges
out of waistbands,
whose double chins
wag double talk,
who equates dollars
with immunity,
claims superiority.
Whose dominance
intimidates, so I
duck out of the way,
bite my tongue,
refrain from speaking,
cower in the face
of injustice.
Who, I ask,
is the more evil?
(Reena’s Exploration Challenge this week asks us to respond to the words of Wendell Berry’s Questionnaire. I chose to respond to question #2: “For the sake of goodness, how much evil are you willing to do? “)
“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; the courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference.”
or, conversely:
“If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.”
It’s a funny old world.

In this instance, I believe that the sin of commission is greater than the sin of omission.

Well, thanks for that. Some days I’m not sure.

If we don’t have the power to stop evil, we do have the power not to contribute to it.

Some leaders shouldn’t be leaders, indeed. And those who don’t share their voice enable the evildoers. However, there is also the fear factor. And so it goes…

Pertinent question! The one who has the power to change something for good, but does not do it is the biggest criminal.

I agree on both counts! “Seethes” is such a good word to describe it.
