All relationships have walls,
the therapist offered
Walls, I could handle –
build a ladder, scale –
seems there was no help
for the vortex that was
our marriage – his narcissism
a black hole that devoured
my soul….

The worst part of narcissism is that it is incurable. The only way is to get out of the orbit of that person, and yet, they will try a few times to pull you back – only to torture you again.
Guess I’m getting an idea for the next prompt. Thanks, VJ!

PS: I agree wholeheartedly that narcissism consumes everything in its path. I knew a man like that once too, and in hindsight am SO GRATEFUL to have gotten out of his orbit.

I spent 17 years married to one. The damage is long-lasting.

I can’t even imagine, V.J. My exposure was only one year, but even that caused lasting damage. 17 years is a long time, but thank goodness you did get out. xx

Narcissism as a black hole. Now, that’s a perfect description.

Yes. I had termed it Down the Rabbit Hole, but I like yours better.

As Betty said: wonderful metaphors! Some relationships are inherently doomed to circle the drain, it seems.

I can relate to relationship having walls that might be scaled and
have had more than my share of vortex relationships.
Great metaphors!
