Cancer.
The fear reverberates, ping-pongs
through our community –
seniors with hope,
fresh start
desire
after years of toil, children, woes
we congregate, create –
new family,
future,
plans rise
yet, we know, existence is
unpredictable, key
in another’s
hands – God
drives, we
follow, fulfill, crave redemption,
or at the very least,
a few year’s rest,
pleasure
unchecked
before the ‘C’ word is unleashed
and hearts throb with sorrow,
band together,
support.

Yes, life is unpredictable, it cannot be contained in our minds, great lines.

“after years of toil, children, woes / we congregate, create – / new family,” This is such a true observation. I still am close to my kids, less so with past co-workers but finding new families of women who have also have spent years of toil is such a blessing in retirement.

I like how you choose to focus on surviving cancer, not succumbing to it… “seniors with hope,
fresh start
desire
after years of toil…”
My dad lived 21 after his first brain tumor was discovered. Cancer killed him eventually, but not before he got to live, and I mean really live.
Beautiful Cinq-Cinquain!

Thanks Abigail. There is much more hope these days – my mother has survived three bouts, and my husband ducked past Stage III. Living is the right emphasis.

The “C” landed very close to me, my husband, only months after our daughter was born. I had a 3 yr old and a new born, and Neil faced surgery. I thank God above, he has been clean for 29 years. My heart still aches for those not so fortunate. Your friend will be in my prayers. I have never heard of a cinq-cinquain. I, too, will have to investigate.

Thanks Dorinda. I don’t think any of us escape it. Lost a sister to it, and have faced numerous other bouts in our immediate family. Do check out the form.

I’m so sorry to her about your sister. It’s a horrible disease, one which I don’t understand why it still exists. ❤

You did a marvelous job with this, V.J. I’m afraid to inquire if cancer has visited your hearth…<3

No. Not recently. We arrived home to find out that a dear friend has lung cancer.

The dreaded “C”, sadly, hardly anyone untouched by it in some way. I’ve never heard of the cinq-cinquain. I’ll have to explore.

Sadly, yes. I’d never heard of it either, but up for the challenge.
