Winter defines this stage,
this page, night descending
too early for my taste.
If I catch a falling star,
can I shed the excess
layers of this confinement
Follow animal impulses
to a sunnier clime, restore
exuberance of noble youth?
Passion persists, intelligence
in tact, just need a brighter
angle from which to reveal it.
(Lillian is hosting dVerse poetics tonight with the prompt: shed. I am also linking up to Willow Poetry’s “What Do You See?” challenge: photo prompt; and Ragtag Community: angle; as well as Fandango’s: noble.)
You addressed the prompts superbly. Also, your words share much wisdom.

I love this …
“If I catch a falling star,
can I shed the excess
layers of this confinement”
I always wonder if we would have time too make decision what to do with it. Wish, dream.. consider and so on 🙂🙂💕

Good point… it would have to be the wish closest to the surface…

I like the way you describe winter with ‘night descending too early’, V.J. – that’s how I feel, although I have noticed it’s coming a little later every day. I also like the internal rhyme of ‘stage/page’ in the first stanza and the enjambment stretching the whimsical question over two stanzas.

Thanks Kim. The light is stretching here too – somehow I find February the worst month of all.

Sorry, brain fart. This image was the challenge from Willow Poetry: What Do You See? She comes up with the best photo prompts.

To step out from behind the veil of invisibility that seems to come with age would be nice- I believe the angle from there would be so much brighter… Beautifully written.

Impressive how to worked the various prompts together. I really like the image and followed your poem visually … so startled to then realize you were also working in additional connections. Cleverly done! Your poem stands on its own quite nicely.
