Naughty thrilled her –
lacked inhibitions toward elicit,
tantalized by promised ‘nice’
Imagined blood red petals
strewn atop steamy suds,
champagne flutes and
intoxicating entanglements.
Fantasies never ran to
infested walls crumbling
in barren captivity –
his version of naughty
turned her blood to ice
nothing about the scenario ‘nice’.
(Tonight is the last Open Link night at the dVerse pub for 2018, hosted by Grace. I am submitted this poem, inspired by the prompts of Manic Mondays 3 Way Prompt, and Twenty Four’s 50 word Thursday. Image provided by Deb Whittam of Twenty Four.)
Well done, but I didn’t think it was sensual. Perhaps it’s the research I’ve done and the books I’ve written on sexual violence, but that last stanza made my blood turn cold, too.

It hits close to home for me too, Merril – but I let it sit. Reader decides.

Wow, that was fabulous, it completely altered the connotations of the words of the song.

Thanks, Deb. I occurred to me that meanings are subjective.

‘blood red petals strewn atop steamy suds’.. is such a vivid and sensuous image! ❤️ But oh! Beware of reality and sinister intentions 😮

This made me think strongly of romance novels that are little more than an episode of a crime television show waiting to happen, but with flowery words and a handsome/ripped perpetrator. I’m certainly not against play that is safe and consensual, but some people have warped ideas.

Yes, the reality is brutal. Thanks for reading.

Scary, how two people can view the same situation, and come up with totally different ideas, of what constitutes a naughty time. Personally, I would be running, like Grace wrote, if this happened to me, too.

Enjoyed the first of the poem, but the ending turned my blood to ice, too. If poetry is supposed to draw out emotions, you sure did a great job with this one.

This so much reminds me of stories I have read of women being held captive… didn’t expect it to start so nice before it plunged into darkness.

There is a lesson here – we are lured by what we perceive to be nice. Better to know the person a bit before jumping in, maybe?

I really like the way your poem twists and turns. Rose petals sprinkled atop steamy studs… sounds like she is really going all out!

I will take fantasy over reality of captivity. But then again, I will run fast when seeing the situation, ha.
Thanks for your support and wishing you warm Happy Holidays !

i felt like this was a two sided mirror, what we see in a situation and what others see of the same, perspectives can be so different looking at the same scenario, there’s a naughty side of you V.J – love her sweet emergence

Hi VJ. I enjoyed this. Sensual and surprising.
It is remarkable the personalities that can surface in the heat of passion. I was a “free spirited” lead singer in a few rock bands in the 60’s and 70’s. I enjoyed a few trysts, and been terrified by who/what surfaced in my evening’s partner at times.
