Art, like a compass,
guides my soul – watercolour
inspiring life force.
(Written for Ronovan Writes Haiku Challenge: art & compass. The image is a piece I recently started. It did not turn out so well, but I like the idea. Maybe I’ll start again. Also, I’m linking up to dVerse poetics, which tonight is all about journeys. Since I don’t leave the house very often, and when I do, my husband is driving, my journeys these days are more ethereal – into the realm of imagination.)
Lovely picture and poem ❤

I love your watercolor. I started playing around with it a few years ago and it is really hard to control watercolor (as opposed to say, acrylics). You are brave to try to do a realistic painting. I tend to just do a third graders version of a Monet! 🙂

I had a good teacher, although I’m still not sure I’m doing it right. Oh well – only have to please me. Thanks LuAnne.

I like those journeys in the imagination. And your watercolor of that bird. I wish I knew how to do that.

Thank goodness for the imagination. I am just learning, Frank. I find at my age I have little to lose, so might as well try, lol. Have a good day.

Oh, the places our minds will take us. To be able to illustrate that is an added reward.

Could be, Christine – I am obsessed with bird’s views. Thanks.

The image appeals in its hues and layout – and the perky bird. A second pass akin to revisiting the scene of prior travels … much the same, but many details different? We always see something new even in places we’ve been to multiple times. Sorta intriguing to think of painting in that manner … more options with paints than with photo-edits. I can see how watercolours could be a life force!

I am loving the practice – so much to learn – makes me feel alive again. I dreamed about this image, the colours, and then, unable to sleep got up and worked on it.

ah a wonderful journey! into the imagination guided by a love for art. i love the first line where you say it it a compass, it symbolises something that is trusted and will never fail. guided and informed by forces we cannot see, yet the intangible has a stronger effect on us than what we can see and touch. really good haiku V.J
