Afternoon Visitor

Elegantly attired, he arrives,
focused on an afternoon feast –
garter snakes hiding in bushes –
hadn’t counted on human presence,
interrogates me with hawkish eyes,
just long enough to be immortalized.

  6. I love hawks and we had a similar experience when one landed on our fence as we watched from a very short distance from inside our window. Those hawk eyes can be intimidating, but I loved the brief interaction. I love how you describe him as “elegantly attired”….hehe.

  8. Crows are pretty tough birds, but I’ve never seen them challenge a hawk. At the ocean I watch them bully the seagulls. Nice to see that you keep your camera handy.

  22. Fantastic shot! Love the look in his eyes. Your words and the look on his face reminds me of a gentleman in the 1930’s formally dressed for dinner with a look of “what do we have here?!”
