Moving Day

A single, blow-up bed
claims my stake
on this house

mostly empty –
dust remnants
of former occupants
rise at my passage –
I chase them

Renovation
will precede
settling in

yet, I will not leave
wrapping myself
in these walls

waiting for
the revelation
that this is home.

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. I like how you break up the lines…it creates a nice rhythm to your poetry. I think the use of “renovation” and “revelation” in the same verse/stanza shows good word choice. Since both of these words begin with “r” and have the same number of syllables, it shows a connection between the beginning of the phrase and the end, solidifying the fact that “renovation” is leading to “revelation”.

  2. I can connect with these thoughts, many emotions are stirring though I am trying to brush them away. My childhood home has always haunted me, still stays with me in my dreams.

      1. Left behind a lot…each nook and cranny knows my dreams, my thoughts, my moments of sadness that I shared with them..here is an excerpt from my poem:
        That cushioned my lonely moments,
        That nurtured my sweet dreams,
That provided solace to my disappointments,
That gave shape to my adventures,
That inspired me to aspire high.
        My home!

  3. Having moved some 18 or 19 times during my US Navy career, I so much appreciate the challenges and complexity of moving…and resettling one’s life. I’m so much there with you!

      1. So much so…excitement, anticipation, angst…and a freshening. A freshening that life has turned a page, and moved to a new chapter. In this period of transition, my friend, I wish you all the best!
