Ice Cream Challenge

Ice
cream,
an indulgence
inspired by summer’s
heat – cool mouthfuls
creamy sweetness melting
ecstasy – torture for those
whose systems cannot cope
lactose intolerance condemning
sideline drooling – until
manufacturers develop
alternatives –
coconut bliss
and soya
so good –
kudos
to
non-dairy treats.

(Thank you to Fandango for kudos, Daily Addictions for cope, and Ragtag Daily prompt for indulgence.)

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. Loved it. I measure out my exposure to ice cream. IT IS ADDICTING! My loves… black raspberry ice cream and banana ice cream. Of course, I would never turn down a banana split! Thanks for participating in Daily Addictions.

  2. I saw the word ice cream challenge and loving ice cream I had to join in. wonderful poem (and very good use of the prompt words). We have some wonderful dairy free alternatives in Australia which I would use all the time except that they are prohibitively expensive. I try to make my own but I have no problem eating the real stuff either. Luckily I;m not lactose intolerant.

  3. Brilliant study in contrasts! I love the structure of the words on the page, set against the deliciousness of the picture. So much goodness — yet so much no. A beautiful metaphor for life itself. Keep writing VJ. Your bring LIFE to life! xo
