Chronic

Mitochondria,
research says,
holds the key
to this malaise –
DNA failing to generate
required energy

I push against
facts, strive
to hoist
this stricken body
from the tedious mire –

fail,
plunge,
succumb
await renewal
of momentum,
push again

a hopeless cycle.

(Penned for DVerse’s Quadrille #59, prompt: cycle.  Thank you to kim881 for hosting.)

Permission to write, paint, and imagine are the gifts I gave myself when chronic illness hit - a fair exchange: being for doing. Relevance is an attitude. Humour essential.

  1. This is incredibly poignant!💜 Though it may seem difficult at first .. I am positive you’ll get through it just fine! 💜 xo

  2. As we get older, sadly the cycle of health does slow us down, but debilitating illnesses seem to have their own speed, stop-and-go. Keep pushing, there’s always hope, especially with a grandchild (mine will soon be four months old and I’m determined to keep going for him). 🙂
